Military Order of the Purple Heart Honors Military Nurses and Medical Corpsmen

Bethesda, Maryland -- Sep 02, 2010 / (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- On September 10, 2010, The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) will join the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center in honoring the nation's military nurses and medical corpsmen with the dedication of a special Purple Heart display at the entrance to the hospital. Hospital Commanding Officer VADM Matthew L. Nathan, Deputy Commander COL Charles W. Callahan, and Command Master Chief Sherman E. Boss will be joined by MOPH National Commander Clayton Jones and the leadership team of the Military Order of the Purple Heart at the 10:00 AM dedication ceremony. 

According to National Commander Jones, "this special event will provide the opportunity to honor all military medical personnel; the doctors whose battlefield surgery saves countless lives; the nurses in field hospitals, on hospital ships, or manning evacuation aircraft; the hospital corpsmen and medics in the field taking care of wounds or injuries, or performing life-saving measures to get soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen back to duty or ready for evacuation; the lab and x-ray technicians and pharmacy personnel who help ensure diagnoses are complete and accurate; and, all of those who nurture us back to health and return home to our families and loved ones. It is their dedication, skill, and caring that allows us to be here today."

Military Order of the Purple Heart

The organization now known as the "Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc.," (MOPH) was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all who have received the decoration. Chartered by the Congress, The MOPH is unique among Veteran Service Organizations in that all its members were wounded in combat. For this sacrifice, they were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. With grants from the MOPH Service Foundation, the MOPH and its Ladies Auxiliary promote Patriotism, Fraternalism, and the Preservation of America's military history. Most importantly, they provide comfort and assistance to all Veterans and their families, especially those requiring claims assistance with the VA, those who are homeless, and those requiring employment assistance. Through the VAVS program, MOPH volunteers provide assistance to hospitalized veterans at VA sites and State Veterans Homes.
