Catseye Pest Control Pick the Top Ten Bug Movies of All Time

Albany, NY
-- May 20, 2011 / (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- Catseye Pest Control today put out its comprehensive list of the top ten bug movies of all times. Did yours make the list?

Who doesn't love a good cheesy horror flick complete with bugs and screaming? These are some of the best, some are great movies, some not-so-much but the cheese factor skyrockets them to the list. So here they are…the Catseye Top 10 Bug movies of all time.

Coming in at Number 10 -- is the 1977 classic Kingdom of the Spiders. Did you ever wonder what happened to William Shatner between Star Trek and the first movie? Well we have your answer…Kingdom of the Spiders. Shatner is at his all time overacting, staccato delivery, cheesy best. This performance is so horrid it borders on the scariest part of the movie. The cheese factor in this one is an eleven out of ten. Not to be missed. Shatner plays a veterinarian/cowboy who teams up with a sexy entomologist to save a town overrun by bloodthirsty tarantulas. How much more do you need?

Coming in at Number 9 -- is 1977's Empire of the Ants. A serious rival on the cheese meter to Kingdom of the Spiders…Empire of the Ants features Joan Collins fighting giant ants that have enslaved a town, through the use of pheromones, to be their sugar-slaves. This movie is a triple threat, bad acting, bad special effects, bad script...so bad its good. A must see. Invite the friends over and enjoy!

At number 8 is 1959's The Wasp Woman -- A cosmetic firm owner and all around miserable person, Janice Starlin, sees that her beauty is failing and willingly volunteers to be the test dummy (and we mean dummy) for a new anti-aging serum made from queen wasp royal jelly. I am sure you can figure what happens next. She becomes wasp woman and starts killing. This is a full 1950's cheese platter for your enjoyment. And, since there are no new ideas in Hollywood, might as well recycle bad, this movie was remade in 1995 with Daniel Travanti of Hill Street Blues fame.

Number 7 is 1978's The Swarm -- With a star studded cast that includes, Henry Fonda, Michael Caine, Katharine Ross, Richard Widmark, Richard Chamberlain, Ben Johnson, Jose Ferrer, Patty Duke, Slim Pickens, and Fred MacMurry, what more do you need. Totally schlocky with horrid special effect and directed by disaster king Irwin Allen, The Swarm has dreadful direction, horrible special effects but an all star cast of cameos good for creating drinking games.

At Number 6 is 1997's Mimic -- The future brings us NYC cockroaches carrying a disease that kills children. So to combat this we genetically engineer super cockroaches to kill them. And, of course, they become giant size, breed like well..cockroaches and threaten to take over the city. Did these people not watch bug movies ever? Breeding super cockroaches, SERIOUSLY, how did that sound like a good idea. And our favorite part -- Mira Sorvino as bug expert -- cause that's believable! Directed by the famed Guillermo del Toro (needless to say not his best work) it's a must see for bug movies.

Coming in at Number 5 is the Original 1958 The Fly -- Yea yea..the 1986 version is technically a better movie with better actors and better effects…BUT WHO WANTS THAT???? This is actually a good movie. Al Hedison plays the fly and acts out the angst of losing his humanity well. I personally like it when he beats on his fly arm while trying to eat with his human arm! And, the end scene of the fly with the human head stuck in a spider web, that has been mimicked so many times, does not come off funny but sufficiently gut wrenching as it should be. We all know the line "help me!...Heeelllpppp mmmeeeeee!"

At Number 4 is one of our favorites 1990's Arachnophobia - Jeff Daniels and John Goodman go to war on a slew of toxic spiders wreaking havoc on a little town. The scene with a guy pinned under a wine rack launching a nail at a flaming spider, is well worth the price of admission. How can you go wrong!  Funny and creepy all at the same time!

Number 3 is 1997's Starship Troopers -- Space marines fight giant intelligent bugs on a far away planet. The special effect for the time was great, and the battle scenes are awesome! Featuring Charlie Sheen's ex Denise Richards, Doogie Howser Neil Patrick Harris, and Top Gun's Jestor, Michael Ironside this is a movie worth the rental. If you listen closely you can hear R. Lee Ermey -- Drill Sergeant from Full Metal Jacket and Geico "psychotherapist" -- as the voice heard on the speaker when the trooper receive their gear for battle!

At Number 2 is 1997's Men in Black -- Will Smith at his best and performing a great theme song. A giant bug bad guy Vincent D'Onofrio wearing an "Edgar suit' and the culmination of the flick being Tommy Lee Jones diving down the gullet of a bug and blowing it up from the inside, what more could you need! To quote Tommy Lee, "Zed, we have a bug."

What movie has Mr Spok, Marshall Dillion, Davy Crockett and Santa Claus from Miracle on 34th Street! You guessed it …Our Number One bug movie of all time 1954's THEM! Nuclear testing has created…WAIT FOR IT…GIANT ANTS!!! And they are pissed, eating and looking to spread out. The special effects are dated but great none the less. The acting is pretty good with Edmund Gwenn (Santa Clause) playing a grim pensive Ant expert looking to rid the world of these creatures. Awesome death scene by James Witmore (Brooks Hatlen in the Shawshank Redemption) saving kids. This is a true horror/bug film CLASSIC. You should definitely watch this one. The sound the ant's makes can easily be mistaken for crickets on a late quiet night…made for some interesting runs home after I saw this as a kid! Some people thought this movie was a statement on nuclear testing, others claim it is a movie about the impending growth of a nuclear communist China. We think it's just a movie about giant ants!

So there you have it. Catseye Pest Controls best bug movies of all time. We would love to hear your thoughts and see how you rank them.
