JOLENE KAY A - ALTO/TENOR (The Princes Of Gospel Music) After 2 months and auditioning 40 applicants, Gold Harbor Welcomes Jolene Kay to Gold Harbor Jolene say's you can't run from life, if you want to sing with soul. Jolene Kay proves the point. She's no stranger to hard times. But with each new chapter this gifted singer/songwriter has stood up, stronger and more tuned in to the world, and readier than ever to sing about it all. "I've been through a lot," she says. "I guess my sense of humor has helped me survive -- that, and music, which has always been a way out." The humor is evident in Jolene's quick laugh and the twinkle that never seems to leave her eyes. As for the music, it's not easy to find any singer whose natural voice has a range like hers, capable of whispered intimacy as well as roof-raising projection. And what she does with that voice makes Jolene even more exceptional; Her deep spiritual commitment to Christ shows in every word and ever note she sings and testify's about. You can't bottle it. You can't learn it in a classroom. You only get this kind of feeling from taking the pleasure and pain of life, breathing it in, and coming back for more. That's been Jolene's story from the start. As part of a large family of singers in a small rural town, she was raised in a climate of nonstop music. "I heard it all," she laughs, "from Manhattan Transfer to Tennessee Ernie Ford to polka, so boundaries never meant anything to me." At age three she began singing in church, where she also studied classical repertoire. By the time she'd graduated from high school, Jolene had been trained on clarinet and oboe, learned guitar and piano by ear and had started writing her own music. Prompted by a sermon by a guest minister in her hometown church, she left home to pursue her gifts and as a result, has worked with session greats Freddie Washington, Harvey Mason, members of Bob Dylan's band, Tower of Power, Aretha Franklin's band, Elton John's band, and many other notable players have worked with her. Songwriters, , Stan Webb and Rick Lonow, whose credits include songs recorded by George Jones, Tracy Byrd, Pam Tillis, and Poco became writing partners with her. She was chosen by listeners of the KLOS program Local Licks for their "Best of Local Licks" show, nominated by the California Country Music Association for honors as "Female Vocalist of the Year," and headlined the Uster Country Music Festival in Switzerland. In Nashville, she has done sessions with notable writers, Jeffrey Steele, Marcus Hummon, and Walter Egan and she is a songwriter and vocalist for the legendary producer and Hall of Fame member, Cowboy Jack Clement, This lady has spent more time in dozens of Nashville recording studio's singing in countless sessions and having more exposer than most anyone you will ever meet to the entire music industry. In gospel music, Jolene was a featured vocalist for 3 years at Payne Chapel AME church in Nashville and now is very excited to be working with Gold Harbor and Nazareth Music Group! Look for a brand new cd to be released early in 2009 with Gold Harbor that will sing your heart to the heavens. JR Richards states, this is an awesome talent to come to Gold Harbor and we are so blessed to have Jolene come aboard. She is so powerful as well as softly articulate. She has that voice that is truly a gift from God. Now all the public has to is soak it up and get blessed. You will have to tell somebody about this Princess that happens to sing country gospel music. Contact: Jimmy Richards, goldharbormusic@earthlink.net, |
