The debut CD by acclaimed singer/songwriter Helen Sventitsky, "Monochrome In Technicolor" has been issued as a limited download-only release, currently available on her website. Recorded in 22 days in February, 2008 for participation in this year's RPM Challenge, using just a guitar, a PDA and a small digital recorder as her studio, Helen's work on this CD has met praise both on rpmchallenge.com - where one commenter compared her favorably to Bob Dylan - and on soundclick.com for it's clear, crisp sound, sparse yet rich production, strong vocal work, and intricate, intimate, story telling. Helen's melodic, genre-bending songs detail wide-ranging life situations both on a personal and universal level. Her lyrics often take the listener on intricate trips through the darkest crevices of the soul, pulled through the other side by, if not complete hope, than vital understanding. These journeys are accompanied by a predominantly electronic, yet varied musical pallete, pulled from her upbringing in the San Francisco Bay Area: East Bay soul, British Punk and New Wave, South Bay rock and North Bay folk all figure in the tasty, provocative stew that forms her music. The songs on the new CD range from stark electroclash to brooding downtempo, to upbeat pop jazz. Such wide-ranging genre rides belie the often poetic, sometimes political, always adult, lyrical content in her songs, dealing with such themes as magic, adultery, aging, and political independence. "My motto has always been, rightly or wrongly,"Helen says,"that I have an obligation to speak my personal truth, or my personal viewpoints, however I wish to say it." With compositions ranging from the peppy "Requiem for My Singlehood", to the sinister ambient of "Incident at Motel 6", to the jaunty light folk of "Party to An Escape" through the frantic mid-tempo house of "Withdrawal Symptoms", Helen speaks her truth and worldview with style and grace. A classically trained vocalist, Helen performed in various plays and musicals around the Bay Area in the mid-1990's before trying her hand as an recording artist. Have established herself as a musical internet presence in 1999, her songs have topped, or nearly topped, the dance, electronic, alternative, pop and jazz charts on sites such as MP3.com, Soundclick.com, Soundlift.com, and Artistlaunch.com. Copies of her new CD will be available for purchase from CD Baby in early May, with purchaseable downloads from Itunes and other online locations to follow. In the meantime, parties interested in reviewing or acquiring the CD can download the zip file containing high-quality mp3s and an artwork and lyrics-filled PDF for free from her website ( http://www.helensventitsky.com), or may download individual tracks from her Soundclick site (http://www.soundclick.com/helensventitsky ).
